As a company, it’s no secret that we love bringing our team together to support local charities. So when we heard about Christie’s Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, we couldn’t wait to dig out our helmets and dust off our bikes in the name of a good cause!
Raising money for two fantastic charities, The Christie Charity and The Next Step Trust, we’re looking forward to cheering on our 22 cyclists who will be taking part in the challenging 60 mile trek on 12th July.
The Manchester to Blackpool bike ride is organised every year by The Christie Charity, the largest single cancer centre in Europe that helps more than 40,000 patients in the UK every year, so a well worthy cause! We’ll also be raising funds for our partnered charity ‘The Next Step Trust’ in Halifax, which supports adults with learning disabilities and complex health needs. Longwood Engineering have been supporting The Next Steps Trust for a number of years with money raised going towards ensuring people with complex needs can live a happy and fulfilling life.
Training for the bike ride is already in full swing with many of our cyclists taking advantage of the warmer weather to ride to work, as well as teaming up for evening and weekend rides. Some of our cyclists are even back on their bikes for the first time since childhood, so we’re immensely proud of all the hard work and dedication they’ve put in so far.
Communications Officer Donna Wood said “It’s been great watching everyone come together as a team and support each other. Even those who aren’t participating have been showing their support from the sidelines by getting involved by cycling to work and collecting donations”
Setting off from Manchester United’s Football Ground at Old Trafford, our cyclists will ride along country lanes for 60 miles before reaching the South Promenade at Blackpool. Here a barbeque, live music and massage awaits (not to mention a well-earned beer in the beer tent). Last year more than 7,000 cyclists took part and this year’s event looks set to be even bigger and better than before!
If you’d like to show your support for our cyclists and help us reach our £600 fundraising target for these two very worthy causes, then you can donate online via our Longwood Engineering Just Giving page.
We’ll also be posting updates from our brand new Longwood Engineering Twitter account so we encourage you to give us a follow!
