Our Sustainable Supply Chain Charter describes the standards we set for ourselves and our supply chain in terms of social, economic and environmental values and practices. As a company, we appreciate that we play an important role in sustaining neighbouring businesses and generating local employment. We are pleased and proud that the vast majority of our employees and suppliers are drawn from within a few miles of our Yorkshire headquarters and we intend to maintain these valuable local relationships.

  • Our History

    The story of Longwood Engineering started over 100 years ago. We are immensely proud of our heritage as it makes us what we are today - a strong, tight-knit organisation with a wealth of experience spanning back through generations of engineering design.

  • 1900-1919

    Hanson-Walsh Engineering Company Limited established (Parkwood Mills Group). Name changed to Longwood Engineering Company Limited. Produced the first screen to recover woollen fibres from waste water

  • 1920-1959

    Between the 1920’s and 1940’s the screen was sold to most of the neighbouring businesses and continued to sell further afield.

  • 1960-1979

    During the 60’s the UK Government saw that the Victorian waste water treatment sites which were run by local councils needed investment so Longwood Engineering saw an opportunity to provide automatic screens to the sites.

  • 1980-1989

    During these years the water companies became privatised and therefore the water companies we know today were formed.

  • 1990-1999

    The UK was known as the dirty country of Europe with polluted beaches and rivers. The EU Directive wanted 6mm 2D screens instead of bar screens to help combat the pollution. The Storm guard was introduced in 1999 and began to sell very well.

  • 2000-2009

    Management buy-out of The Longwood Engineering Company by the three managers that were actively running the company. First elevator screen goes on trial with United Utilities at Horton-in-Ribblesdale. The Combi-wash was introduced in 2006.

  • 2010-Present day

    The third-generation Escalator “Escalator Plus” was launched which included the SAB or Self Adjusting Brush. SAB 2.0 has just been introduced after further development work.

Giving Back

We may produce exceptional precision machines but it’s our people who lie at the heart of Longwood Engineering. The Longwood staff team of around 80 people finds many ways to engage with and support our local community. We encourage our people to get involved in creative and exciting initiatives that brighten the lives of others as well as adding to their own experience and fulfilment.
